New Partners for Community Revitalization

New Partners for Community Revitalization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to revitalize New York’s low- and moderate-income neighborhoods and communities of color that are disproportionately impacted by brownfield sites. NPCR is widely recognized as being instrumental in the conceptualization and creation of the New York Brownfield Opportunity Areas (BOA) Program. To date, NPCR has helped secure $32.4 million in BOA grants for over 100 communities across New York State. Uniquely positioned as an "honest broker," NPCR fosters beneficial relationships between developers, public officials, community organizations and environmental justice organizations. With a successful track record of bringing diverse perspectives together, we are a policy and opinion leader on brownfields, the area-wide approach and community engagement. NPCR's city, state and federal policy activities are further informed by our site-specific brownfields redevelopment and BOA project work with nonprofit and for-profit developers and community development leaders.

NPCR Updates

Brownfields Forum January 17, 2012: More than 200 people gathered for NPCR's 4th Annual Brownfields Forum, held on January 17th in New York City, coincident with NPCR's Ten Year Anniversary (see press release). Kicking off the Forum were written remarks from Secretary of State Cesar Perales (read remarks). The BOA EXPO, a centerpiece of the Forum this year, was designed to strengthen alignment between the redevelopment projects emerging from communities in the Brownfield Opportunity Areas (BOA) program and the public and private sector resources connected with Governor Cuomo's ten Regional Economic Development Councils (REDCs). November 2011: NPCR releases Accelerating Economic Development: The Area-Wide Approach of the Brownfield Opportunity Areas Program. The report sheds new light on how community supported brownfields redevelopment augments New York's emerging regional economic development strategies, and highlights additional state and federal programs that can be used to pick up the pace of brownfields related jobs creation and advance revitalization projects.

New Partners New Connections Event October 12, 2011: New Partners New Connections was the theme of a landmark event that took place in midtown Manhattan at the first NPCR Pipeline & Networking breakfast roundtable (see NPCR press release). Sixty participants, including developers, community organizations, as well as lawyers, planners, consultants, insurers and government officials, all interested in advancing redevelopment projects, gathered to learn about opportunities emerging in communities across the five boroughs. September 8, 2011: NPCR Executive Director Jody Kass has been asked to serve on the Strategies Working Group of the New York City Regional Economic Development Council. At the September 8, 2011 Working Group meeting, NPCR submitted 27 strategies aimed at achieving the REDC's stated priority of recapturing the City's "thousands of acres of contaminated brownfield sites."
